Introduction:

IoT stands for Internet of Things. In simple words this technology connects the electronic devices , softwares , sensors and creates a network connectivity, which enables these objects to collect and exchange data. IoT is creating opportunities 
for more direct integration between physical world and computer-based systems and resulting in improved efficiency ,accuracy and economic benefit.

Example: If we want to that if  we want to control our normal activity like switching  bulb/fan,information regarding watering of plants  etc, with our smartphone then we can achieve this with the help of IoT.
Like if we want that our whenever the water content of our potted plant dries  upto certain limit then moisture related information should come on our smartphone so that we can water them on proper time. To achieve this a moisture sensor is dip inside pot soil so that it will send us information about moisture content on our smartphone so that proper action can be taken properly. 

Working: 

Internet of Things is not the result of single technology. Instead several complementary technical developments provide capabilities that taken together help to bridge the gap between physical and virtual world.
These capabilities may include communication and co-operation,identification , sensing, embedded information processing etc.
